Our Story
Business partners – and sisters – Alison and Carly, opened the doors to the The Mount on 1st March 2004 with a vision for a salon that would be something different.
Quality hairdressing and luxurious customer service have always been a top priority for all clients. Alison's passion was fuelled by a successful career in the hair industry that would take her from Taunton, Somerset to a celebrity salon in London's West End. A talented stylist, she has worked in many different areas of hairdressing including television and photographic work, and for salon brands Paul Mitchell and MoroccanOil. Ali was keen to bring her experience home to the South West and realise her dream of opening her own salon.
Carly, Ali's business partner, and sister, has followed a different path. Not a hairdresser, she has a BSc (Hons) Degree in Business that led to a career in management, where she developed the passion for customer care that is fundamental to the core value of luxurious, quality service at The Mount.
We are very proud to work with our team of passionate people, who strive to be the best at what they do. Starting with just 3 members, we have developed a great team who specialise in areas such as long hair, weddings and specialist colour treatments, and who take the time to really listen to your likes and dislikes. Many of them are homegrown, having trained at The Mount. Find out more about our team.
In 2008, we opened our beauty rooms and offer a luxurious menu including facials, manicures, eyebrow and body treatments. We have worked with the wig charity My New Hair to aid anyone who is suffering from hair loss, and we are also members of 365 Hairdressing and the National Federation of Hairdressers and Beauty Therapists. In December 2018, The Mount was voted Best Independent Salon in the British High Street awards for Taunton Deane.

‘A Day in the Life’ at The Mount
We filmed an entire day at The Mount to show what our busy team gets up to on a daily basis, right from opening the salon in the morning, greeting clients and one-to-one consultations, through to various hair and beauty treatments, final client satisfaction and shutting the salon in the evening. This is ‘A Day in the Life’ at The Mount.
